Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas partner Gyanendra Kumar has been designated as a senior advocate by Delhi High Court, which means he must step down from his partnership role at CAM.
This was the first time Delhi High Court had designated senior advocates in line with the Supreme Court’s judgment in Indira Jaising v Supreme Court (2023). In its judgment, the top court introduced a series of guidelines to bring about greater transparency in the designation process for senior advocates, which included the constitution of a permanent committee. Kumar is now one of the first to be appointed in accordance with the new rules.
Kumar has represented the Confederation of Indian Industry before the Joint Committee of the Lok Sabha, where he presented the industry’s perspective on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
With nearly three decades of experience, Kumar has advised a diverse range of Indian and international clients, including investors and multinational corporations, across various courts and tribunals in India.
Having commenced legal practice in 1994 at the trial courts in Tis Hazari and the high court, Kumar subsequently became one of the founding members of a boutique disputes and transactions law firm, where he practised for 19 years.
In 2015, he joined CAM, honing his experience in handling complex contractual arrangements. During the past nine years, he had advised on potential disputes and dispute resolution matters even before contracts were finalised.
His areas of expertise include dispute resolution, including restructuring, M&A, insolvency proceedings, commercial disputes, arbitration and pre-arbitration litigation, as well as white-collar crime.
